Abstract

The Office of Academic Affairs announced in an email Feb. 19 faculty cuts are no longer needed following collaborative efforts between YSU's administration and faculty members. Gender equality is on the rise in sports, and so are studies on the impact the menstrual cycle has on training, competition and injury. YSU recently received nearly $450,000 from the National Institute of Defense to fund YSU's "Research and Evaluation on Domestic Radicalization and Violent Extremism." Student Press Freedom Day will be held on Feb. 23 in Kilcawley Center. Organizations at YSU hosted a panel on Black History Month in The Hub of Kilcawley Center. Best-selling science fiction author John Scalzi will speak at the History Across the Humanities conference on Feb. 22 in the DeBartolo Hall Auditorium. YSU will have a new outdoor common area on the lawn between DeBartolo Hall and Lincoln Avenue. The YSU Communications Department offers high-end equipment for students to borrow, such as large video camcorders, DSLR cameras, lighting kits, tripods and audio recording devices. The devoted docents of the Butler Institute of American Art are featured. Cleveland bands The Frans and Girl Cologne are featured. The YSU men's tennis team takes down Xavier and lost to Northern Illinois University. The YSU men's and women's swimming and diving teams traveled to Indianapolis to compete in the Horizon League Championships. The YSU women's basketball team broke its four-game win streak with a loss to the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. YSU Women's lacrosse team has a strenuous slate to start the season with a new coach and Power Five opponents.
