Abstract

Bill Johnson officially became the 10th president of YSU during a ceremony Sept. 19 in Kilcawley Center. YSU officially began its Hispanic Heritage Month with an opening ceremony Sept. 12. YSU Police Department responded to an alleged assault involving an airsoft gun near the Becker Family Fountain Commons. The YSU Planetarium is preparing for its first show since the roof caught fire Jan. 08, 2023. Senior planetarium student employee, Aubree Peterson-Spinard, is featured. SGA has a new option for students to voice their concerns with "Share Your Voice!" on the SGA website. Recruitment process for the Panhellenic Council now includes an expanded events schedule for accessibility. The Penguin Club is featured. The Athletic department switched the names of academic advisors to academic coordinators for their student-athletes. 41% of full-time students are employed. Maestro Sergey Bogza is the new conductor and music director of the Youngstown Symphony Orchestra. The HOLA Fest was celebrated in Youngstown for its second year. Summer Festival of the Arts return to the YSU campus for summer 2025. The YSU women's soccer team opened conference play Sept. 19. The YSU men's and women's cross country teams placed seventh overall in the Roy Griak Invitational in Minneapolis. The YSU women's volleyball team in back inside the brand new Beeghly Center as it debuted with a win. The Penguin football team lost to the University of Pittsburgh Panthers, 73-17, leaving the Penguins 1-3 before conference play.
