Spring Weekend 1972 was a success, with comedian George Carlin and musical group The Grass Roots leading the entertainment. The event went well despite the cancellation of a dance at the Idora Park Ballroom, due to a contractual dispute with another band. A YSU staffer was raped in Beeghly Center. Student Council debated campus security, recent Spring Weekend problems, and the “Pugsley” referendum. The Community of Concern obtained 1,800 signatures on its petition to stop the American bombing of North Vietnam. Meanwhile, a bomb scare on campus forced the evacuation of two buildings. Asia expert Louise Bennett gave a talk, and a new student Greek Orthodox fellowship was profiled. |
