Abstract:
Dr. George Jones, head librarian at YSU since 1957, announced his plans to retire effective November 1974. Under Jones' direction, the number of books in the library increased from 68,000 to 340,000, with an increase in staff to 12 professional librarians, 26 support staffers, and 35 student assistants. Jones was also responsible for the conversion of the library's cataloging mode from the Dewey Decimal to the Library of Congress Classification System.
