Abstract:
"My design incorporates my love of history through the composite pun of Youngstown's founder, John Young, and the penguin icon. The facial features are based on a portrait of John Young, as found in J.G. Butler, Jr.'s History of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley, Ohio. The period clothing is culled from various sources on mid-late 1700's American history. The pedestal depicts emigration to the fictitious settlement of Pengstown." Ken Smith is originally from Salem, but currently resides in Canfield. He has worked in illustration and graphic design for nearly twenty years, and encourages education through artwork and strives to achieve this in his art.
