dc.description.abstract This photograph depicts a volunteer for the Type II Sabin oral polio vaccine immunization program in Youngstown, Ohio in 1962. The volunteer is standing next to several five-gallon bottles of distilled water with which the vaccine was mixed. The program, which was sponsored by the Mahoning County Medical Society and endorsed by the American Medical Association, was reportedly the first in the nation. This phase of the project occurred February 15-17, 1962. en_US
