Academic Senate Minutes Meeting of May 02, 2007

Abstract

Sunil Ahuja, Chair of the Academic Senate, presided. President Sweet reported on campus safety times, Bege Bowers chairing the search for a new Chief Human Resources Officer, the passing of an education funding plan for the next two years by the Ohio House, and the Northeast Ohio Commission on Collaboration and Innovation. An update on the Community College Initiative was given. Provost Herbert gave a report on the Academic Strategic Plan. The Ad Hoc Committee on Tenure and Promotion reported on several recommendations which were attached to the agenda. The Senate Executive Committee reported on the Budget Information Committee which focused on the FY 2008 preliminary budget scenarios. The first Senate sponsored "civility hour" was held. A Campus Conversation will be held as a way to communicate the different issues on campus. The Ohio Faculty Council had minutes of its meeting attached to the agenda. The Charter and Bylaws Committee made an amendment stating that the Vice Chair of the Senate and the Secretary of the Senate shall be members of the Executive Committee. An amendment to rename the colleges Arts and Sciences to Liberal Arts and Social Sciences and Engineering and Technology to STEM was passed. The Academic Standards Committee moved to modify the policy on Incomplete grades. Academic Programs gave an informational report. Undergraduate Curriculum Committee listed approved changes. The General Education Committee reported on approved courses. Tod Porter moved to drop the oral intensive requirement from the General Education requirements. Motion failed. The Library Committee reported on budget recommendations. In New Business a Resolution of Appreciation for Dr. William D. Jenkins was approved.
