Academic Senate Minutes Meeting of December 03, 2008

Abstract

Senate Chairperson, Chet Cooper, presided. President David Sweet outlined some of the budget challenges being faced by the State of Ohio. The Senate Executive Committee announced Dr Annette Burden as Chair of the Integrated Technologies Committee, a reminder that Graduation ceremonies will take place December 14th and that the Senate "Civility Hour" has been renamed to "Penguin Pride" gatherings. Tammy King reported on the Ohio Faculty Council meeting. The Academic Standards Committee introduced two motion: to accept new language concerning the GER requirements for students returning to the university to earn a second Bachelor's degree and to accept revisions to the English proficiency policy for foreign student admittance. Both motions passed. The General Education Committee gave a list of approved General Education courses. The Academic Events Committee gave an informational report. The Ad Hoc Committee on Sustainability gave an informational report and requested that the committee is looking at classes dealing with topics related to sustainability that are not listed in the Bulletin. In New Business the Senate unanimously passed a resolution in support of Senate Bill 305 and House Bill 502.
